Blocked Toilets
A toilet rising to the brim, or bubbling when the laundry drains, usually points to the main sewer line. We clear the blockage and check the pan connection while we're there.
When gully yards below Latrobe Terrace collect ridge runoff faster than pipes can cope, blocked drains in Paddington show up first in stormwater, sewers, sinks and toilets, so ring (07) 3522 5633.
If we're late, $100 comes off your bill
Every drain job we take on sits under one of six headings, each with its own page under drain services:

A toilet rising to the brim, or bubbling when the laundry drains, usually points to the main sewer line. We clear the blockage and check the pan connection while we're there.

When every drain in the house slows at once, the sewer line is the usual suspect. We find where it's blocked, clear it, and tell you which stretch of pipe needs attention next.

Downpipes and yard drains that overflow in a storm send water against your foundations. We clear the stormwater line and trace where the runoff from your ridge block actually goes.

Sinks, showers, laundry tubs and floor wastes clog with hair, grease and soap sludge. We clean the fixture drains with an electric eel or jet blasting and get the water moving.

A drain camera pinpoints the trouble and names it: a root mass, a broken section or a joint that has slipped out of line. It takes the guesswork out of what happens next.

Once we know the pipe is cracked, root-damaged or collapsed, we talk through dig-and-replace and relining, what each involves, and which suits your block and budget.

Paddington Blocked Drain Services is the blocked drain service for Paddington, Red Hill and Petrie Terrace. We clear blocked toilets, sewers, stormwater lines and fixture drains, and we repair or reline the pipes underneath them.
Most of our work is in pre-1940 workers' cottages and Queenslanders on small ridge blocks, where the sewer connections all date from one era. We're locally owned and operated, not a franchise.
Proud MPAQ members

The suburb's drains fail in patterns, and the patterns come straight from its ground and its history.
The Clem Jones sewer program reached these hills in the early 1960s, and nearly every cottage was connected in the same few years. Whole streets now share a single pipe age and a single failure mode: earthenware sockets that have opened and shifted over sixty years.
Blocks here are small, so street and garden trees stand close to the house line. Roots have only a metre or two to travel to an open joint, and once they find one they pack it full.
The gullies that went under in 1974 collect runoff from the ridges above, and the yard drains at the bottom of each dip give way first when a storm outruns the pipes.
The flats near Baroona Road were Red Jacket Swamp before drainage, part of a wetland that stretched toward the river, and pipes laid through that old wet ground tend to weep and silt up.
Drain backing up right now? Three quick checks:

Four symptoms come up again and again, and each one tells us where to start:
the main sewer line is partly blocked somewhere downstream.
air trapped behind a partial blockage, which usually means roots or debris sitting in the line.
water escaping at a cracked joint and feeding the lawn above it.
the stormwater line is blocked on its own run, and rain will make it worse.

No two drain jobs cost the same, and four things do most of the moving:
A drain hatch close to the surface costs less to work on than one buried under a deck or a paved courtyard on a steep block.
Earthenware laid deep in rocky ground takes longer to expose than shallow modern PVC, and rock slows any dig.
A flush of wipes clears quickly; roots woven through a joint usually mean a repair conversation once the line is running.
If a cleared line doesn't stay clear, a CCTV inspection pinpoints the fault before anyone commits to digging.
One job that's never ours: a blockage in the Urban Utilities sewer main in the street is the authority's job, and we'll tell you straight when that's what you're dealing with.

The suburb's shape does as much to its drains as its pipe age does.
Given and Latrobe Terraces run the ridgetops, with steep gullies off both sides. A cottage built falling to the rear pushes everything it sends downhill, so its pipes work harder than the fall of the block ever intended.
On the flats around Bayswater Street, the river pushes back up from Milton in big floods. It came through in 1893, 1974 and January 2011, reaching the village shops and Fernberg Road.
After a storm the ridge streets dry out fast, but the shaded gullies and the Rosalie flats hold their damp for days, and that moisture keeps working at old joints.

The same work takes us across the ridge and down toward the river every week: Red Hill, Petrie Terrace, Milton, Auchenflower and Bardon. Each suburb page sets out what blocks its drains and how we work there.

On (07) 3522 5633, run through which fixtures are slow, gurgling or overflowing, so the plumber on the way knows where to start.

We find the cause, explain the fix and give you a fixed upfront price, and the work only starts once you agree to it.

We clear the line with the method that suits the pipe, then run water through it to see the blockage is gone before repairs come up.
The line gets a full flush until it runs clear, and you see it draining properly before the plumber heads off.

How easily we reach the pipe, how deep it sits and what it's made of, what actually caused the blockage, and whether a camera inspection is worth doing before any digging starts.
Call in the morning and we can usually have a plumber at your drain the same day, though we never promise it outright. Mornings are the best bet for a visit before dark.
The house drain and everything up to the boundary, including the connection point, are yours to maintain. The main under the roadway is Urban Utilities' responsibility, and a blockage there is theirs to clear.
Anything but toilet paper and human waste. Wet wipes, paper towel, cotton buds and sanitary products don't break down, and on old earthenware lines with opened joints they catch and block fast.
We start with which fixtures are slow and whether they gurgle, then clear the line and run water through it. If the blockage comes back, a CCTV drain inspection shows exactly where the fault sits.
Ring (07) 3522 5633, describe which drains are slow or overflowing, and we'll match the job to the right approach. You agree a fixed upfront price before any work starts.
Ring (07) 3522 5633 about the drain that's playing up: $0 call-out fees, no surcharge for nights, weekends or public holidays, and same-day where we can across Paddington. Mention this offer when booking: $99 off blocked drains. T&Cs apply.
